Popular chutney soca artiste Ravi B (Ravi Bissambhar) has been summoned to appear in court on charges arising out of his alleged actions after his 2011 Chutney Soca Monarch defeat in February. Yesterday, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard gave instructions for the summary charge to be laid against the singer. Assistant Superintendent Carl Ramlal obtained a summons for Ravi B for the offence of encouraging patrons at the February 19 event at Skinner Park, San Fernando, to throw missiles on the stage.
He would appear before a San Fernando Magistrate on September 27 to answer the summary charge. It is alleged that after losing the coveted title and $2 million prize to Rikki Jai, Ravi B, lead singer of the band Karma, expressed outrage at the results. Ravi B allegedly called on the 3,000-plus patrons at the Skinner Park event to express their displeasure with the results. As a result, several missiles were thrown on the stage. He later apologised for the incident.
