An estimated 40,000 spectators converged on William’s Bay Chaguaramas for the first Red Bull Flugtag held in the Caribbean and witnessed team Obi Wanted Red Bull claim victory with their hilarious combination of showmanship, creativity and flight distance.
“The day was excellent; the weather, the people and the whole vibe of the competition was great” said the excited pilot of the winning team, Ryun Singh. “We are so ready for Panama. The force was with us!”

RED 967FM radio talk show hosts JW & Blaze kept the overflowing crowd roaring with laughter while dozens of boats , kayaks and yatchs, crowded the bay and enjoyed the best view of the event. A collective breath was held when the winner’s craft flew off the ramp for an outstanding 52 feet, the longest flight of the day.
Obi Wanted Red Bull won their ticket to Travis Pastrana’s playground, Nitro City Hotel in Panama, with 142.5 points. Coming in second and jetting off to Barbados for an ultimate kite boarding experience is team Tattoo Inc Flight Club with a combined score of 117. Team Emancipation could use their airplane craft to fly over to Tobago for a weekend of extreme fun, and also walked away with the People’s Choice title with an astounding 46,510 votes, keeping their wings on with a year’s supply of Red Bull.
Spectators got an early start to secure the best views, flocking the beach since 5 am. According to the Office of Disaster Preparedness Management (ODPM), over one third of the island’s population mobilized to the west end of Trinidad in an attempt to view firsthand “flying horses”, “a box full of piggies” and even a “flying barra” leap into Chaguaramas waters.
Thousands of people in thousands of vehicles caused a massive traffic jam yesterday along the Western Main Road and as far back as the Beetham Highway as they headed for the inaugural Red Bull Flugtag at Williams Bay, Chaguaramas. But not even traffic can stop Trinis from having a good time.
Red Bull Flugtag has circled the world since 1991, and now Trinidad joins the long list of iconic countries such as Ireland, Hong Kong and Australia that have witnessed the hilarious human-powered flights.
