The recently concluded Top 20 Hip Hop artist of all time countdown hosted by 96.1FM garnered mixed reactions just as any hip-hop countdown. The countdown which began on 14th March, 2011 concluded on 8th April spanned a variety of artists from the Old School to the New School; from Dr. Dre to Ja Rule to Drake. Like most countdowns of this nature, Tupac (#3) and Biggy Smalls (#2) posthumously weighed in at the top 5 spots ahead of Eminem (#5) and Nas (#4). However it was jiggaman Jay-Z who claimed the #1 spot!
Many eyebrows were raised when Drake impressively came in at #13 ahead of veterans such as Busta Rhymes and DMX, with many even questioning his plausibility to be even considered for the countdown. Artists such as Ludacris, Jadakiss, Missy Elliott were however omitted. Despite numerous attempts to acquire info, it is unclear exactly who was responsible for the selection of artists and the criterion used.
