Marlon Asher the ganja farmer takes on the world

Marlon Asher can easily walk down the streets of this country unnoticed. The soft-spoken reggae singer may either be mistaken for a member of the Bobo Shanti community or just your average rasta. Either way, Asher, famous for the smash hit Ganja Farmer, is not fazed.
Last month, Nice Day, a song he did with South African singer Black Dillenger on the Paradise Riddim was released. Next month, Asher will be taking off again, heading to Amsterdam for a Coffeeshop Tour with rising Dutch reggae and dance star Leah Rosier. He has collaborated with Rosier on a song called Amsterdam and will shoot the video for the song while on tour. The song was officially released on Tuesday.Collaborations such as these have kept Asher busy and working while many of his contemporaries seem to have fallen by the wayside.
Asher, who has had two more albums and countless songs since Ganja Farmer, his management didn’t rest on their laurels. The unit ensured he recorded in a professional studio with Carl Beaver Henderson and capitalising on the song’s worldwide popularity, they developed a plan to ensure his longevity in the business by taking him to various regions, build his underground following and later focus on commercial work.
Already there are tours post-Amsterdam lined up for Madrid, Sicily and Austria in July. In February he is booked to perform in New Zealand and Australia.
