Stephen King’s "It" to hit the big screen!!!

Stephen King’s It gave me a serious case of the willies when I was a kid. The idea of a someone attempting to lure children into the sewers is creepy enough, but when you toss Tim Curry as a sinister clown into the mix, the result is downright terrifying. However, a few years ago, I attempted to revisit the flick, hoping it would generate the same terror it did when I was in middle school. Unfortunately, the movie hasn’t aged very well, though Curry is still ridiculously creepy. Besides that, I was a little disappointed.

Now, decades after the book’s publication, “It” is finally getting a big-screen adaptation courtesy of “Sin Nombre” and “Jane Eyre” director Cary Fukunaga. Some of you may balk at the idea of the picture being directed by a guy who previously tackled a Charlotte Bronte novel, though anyone who has seen “Sin Nombre” knows that Fukunaga has serious chops.

The film will be split into two parts, which makes sense to those who have read the book. The novel — which follows a group of friends as they attempt to thwart the otherworldly antics of a strange creature living beneath their hometown — is split into halves. The first part of the tome follows the group in the 50′s as children, while the second chronicles their quest to squash this menace as adults in the 80′s. I’m sure screenwriter Chase Palmer will update the story for modern audiences, as I doubt kids will want to watch a bunch of thirty-somethings confront their fears during the 1980′s.

Co-producing the picture are Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Production, the former of whom wrote “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”, as well as “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”, the adaptation for which is headed to theaters across the globe this summer. Grahame-Smith is also scripting the “Beetlejuice” sequel.
